Cedar Grove Lodge is a cottage resort located on beautiful Peninsula lake in picturesque Muskoka, Ontario. Located a short drive between Huntsville and the world famous Algonquin Park, the lodge offers 19 individual lakeside cottages stretched along 1600 feet of natural shoreline.
We are very different from a hotel or large
resort. We are a casual and relaxed lodge and
perfect for those who are looking for something a
little different and even a bit 'quirky'.
This Ontario resort has been in operation by the Fleming family for over 81 years. Our rich tradition of offering unique log cabins with wood burning stone fireplaces with three delicious meals per day has kept generations of Muskoka vacation travellers coming back year after year.
The lodge and cottage rentals are open year round for your unique Muskoka getaway vacation.
Winter in Muskoka brings a plethora of activity choices including cross country skiing, snowshoeing, skating on our lake rink, or crisp morning walks. Having said that, the most popular activity in winter is sitting by a roaring fire in your own lakeside cabin, looking out over Peninsula lake and enjoying a scenic Ontario winter.
In summer, guests at the lodge can choose from a myriad activity options, or simply relax and unwind in a Muskoka chair on the dock. We offer free use of all of the non-motorized boats, which include canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, windsurfers, and row boats. Tours on our pontoon boat and water-skiing are also free of charge. Please visit the summer page of this website for more summer activity information.
Fall brings cool nights
and spectacular Muskoka colours. Crisp morning
walks down our country road are popular, as well as
catching up with a good book on the dock in the warm
afternoon sun on Peninsula Lake. Many guests will
choose to take a packed lunch and head out to
Algonquin Park to try of their many hiking trails. A pre-dinner canoe ride can be the perfect way to
end another glorious day at your lakeside log cabin
resort.
Spring is a great
time of year to enjoy birdwatching. On May 10th,
2009, 2 Guests staying at Cedar Grove Lodge saw
15 different species of birds.
They were: American Goldfinch, Chickadee, Yellow
Breasted Sapsucker, Downy Woodpecker, Red

No need to think about cooking or cleaning, all of our rates include meals and housekeeping service.
Cedar Grove is proud to be an environmentally friendly Ontario cottage rental resort. We have been rated and inspected by Audubon International and under its green leaf eco-rating system, have received four Green Leaves. We are the first resort in Ontario to be awarded Four Green Leaves on its first rating. We are committed to offering guests a way to enjoy what Huntsville and Muskoka has to offer with as small a carbon footprint as possible. In addition, through our partnership with Planetair, we are now able to offer guests a way of making their stay carbon neutral. Whether you are from southern Ontario, a nearby State or Province, or from anywhere in Canada, a unique carbon offset can be created for your Ontario getaway. You can enter your distance travelled and type of vehicle, as well as your length of stay, and Planetair will provide you with a dollar amount associated with offsetting your stay at our cottage resort. Please visit www.cedargrove.planetair.ca to offset your Huntsville vacation.
We are proud supporters of the Muskoka Wildlife
Center. For 2 years in a row we have been "Silver"
sponsors of Yeti the Canada Lynx and Rufus the
Bobcat. Ontario resorts have a rich tradition of
giving back to the community and we feel
environmental causes are a great way for us to do
that.
Cedar Grove is a member of Savour Muskoka which
is a local organization that promotes the use of
local farmers and culinary artisans. We use
Maple View Farms maple syrup, Windmill Bakery,
Yummies in a Jar, Grenville Farms, Edible Fungi,
Brookland Farms and others. Where possible we
source local ingredients and products to help
local small businesses and as part of our eco
program. In the summer of 2010 we were able to source local potatoes, green
and yellow beans, basil, beets, shitaake
mushrooms, many kinds of Muskoka lettuce,
pale ale from Lake of Bays, bit of local
raspberries, cherry tomatoes and more!
Cedar Grove is the first Ontario resort to
be Ocean Wise approved. Ocean Wise is a
conservation program based out of the
Vancouver Aquarium that helps restaurants
and other food establishments to choose,
where possible, the most sustainable,
environmentally friendly seafood
options. Thorough research is done by Ocean
Wise to come up with a list of the best
items that have the least impact on the
local ecosystem. A few of the Ocean Wise
items you might see on our menu include Nova
Scotia Arctic Char and Wild Lake Erie
Pickerel.
“Cedar Grove Lodge is
setting an example for all resorts in
the region by becoming our first Ocean
Wise resort partner in Ontario. We
congratulate their leadership and
commitment to sourcing sustainably
caught fish for their menus.”

2012 marks 100 years since Tom
Thomson's first visit to Algonquin
Park. To help celebrate this we are
having another outdoor mural painted
for us. We have chosen a Tom Thomson
painting that was painted that first
year, "The Canoe". Follow our
facebook page for updates as this
comes together. We plan to place it
on the boathouse by the waters edge.
In fact, "The Canoe" will hang right
beside our canoe rack!
In 2011 Muskoka was
picked as the best summer trip destination by
National Geographic. They referenced our "2500
square mile natural playground including 8699
miles of shoreline and 17 historic towns and
villages, and countless waterfalls and lakes
bordered by the granite peaks of Algonquin
Park." The prestigious magazine also stated that
Muskoka offers "an unplugged pace that's a world
away from Canada's largest city, Toronto."
National Geographic editor-in-chief, Keith
Bellows said that Muskoka was the top spot
because it stays true to itself, adding "Its
really got this sort of special depth - this
resonance - that is immutable. We look for
something that just feels like its been there
for a long time and stays true to what it is."
In June 2010, Huntsville hosted the G8 summit
right here on Peninsula Lake. Leaders from
around the world gathered for meetings at the
nearby Deerhurst Resort. This afforded us a
great opportunity to showcase our great Muskoka
region to travelers from all around the globe.
Our forests, lakes, rivers, heritage and natural
beauty were on display to foreign dignitaries,
world media, and many, many security forces!
Many of the security forces have since returned
to Huntsville to enjoy the various cottage
resorts, Inns, and lodges with their families.
Cedar Grove is now on
Twitter. Visit our Twitter page at
www.twitter.com/cedargrove2
to view our tweets. We plan to post: last minute
availability, new happenings, weather updates, fall
colour updates, ice in/out updates, new dining
items, interesting minutiae, wildlife
sightings, special deals, and more!
In October 2010 we tore down one of our
oldest and most beloved cabins, Seagull. It
was very sad to see it go, but we are
excited about the new cabin that will emerge
in its place. "Blue Heron" will be a brand
new three bedroom log cabin sometime in
2011. Follow our twitter feed for updates
and photographs.
Many guests ask us what are the
differences between the cabins. How do I
pick a cottage? Its not a simple
answer. All of our 19 lakeside cabins
are different. They vary is size, age,
number of bedrooms, location, view, and
style. This website outlines all 19
cabins and gives a panoramic photo or
photos of them. Every cabin has people
who for them, its their favourite. The
best way to pick one is to not over
think it too much, just give one a try
based on roughly what you are looking
for and what's available. Once here, you
can get a better feel of our resort and
the different cabins that can help you
select one for the next time. Some of
our guest have fun trying all of the
out, while others wouldn't think of
coming if they didn't get "their
cottage".
Please peruse this website, it contains over 125 photos of our Muskoka lodge. Feel free to send us an e-mail, call us, or drive up to Huntsville and have a look for yourself. We look forward to providing you with a unique Ontario vacation!
